The New Museum of Korean Literature in Seoul transforms nature into a new geometry
Collaboration with: NO.MAD Arquitectos – Eduardo Arroyo.
The creation of a “Natuficial” public building, halfway between the “Natural” Bukhansan Park and the “Artificial” Arts Village, provides a logical transitional dialogue that absorbs both structures. This innovative multifaceted geometry is configured as a highly symbolic space in a unique humanized environment that reflects the status of the Museum. The design of the Museum space brings together exhibition and educational facilities and public enjoyment of nature seamlessly linked, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The building diminishes its presence within the park landscape by its low height providing an active ecological area for collective public events outdoors. As the Arts Village buildings are low-rise, the Museum’s roof deck towers over them and offers excellent views towards the distant landscape.
The existing natural environment is enhanced by the green roof topography as an extension of the park. This surface also acts as a great insulation barrier to reduce energy losses and showcases advanced technologies that collect rainwater for irrigation and consumption. Some of the pitched roofs house graders for public events in a beautiful and unique setting with direct views of the mountains.
