Sanxenxo Public Market where you can shop or enjoy the gourmet space with sea views
Collaboration with: NO.MAD Arquitectos – Eduardo Arroyo.
The proposal opted to create a building clearly associated with a generous, multipurpose public space in the new civic axis of Sanxenxo. The geometry of the ground floors of the market provides a space that embraces the public square, making it more comfortable in the face of possible wind currents. The upper volume of the multifunctional centre also creates a partial cover for the square so that it can be used on rainy days.
The use of the ground floor of the market towards the exterior with a façade-programme equipped with small stalls with counters open to the exterior allows its use from the square to taste seasonal market products with local wines. It is thus linked in its use to the memory and local tradition of the “furanchos”. This incitement to an urban and collective use of the perimeter of the building marks its clear civic vocation.
The multifunctional building is situated above the market as a homogeneous volume covered with micro-perforated aluminium sheeting with marine protection that allows the landscape to be seen from the inside while ensuring a good solar filter when exposed to the south.
