Metamorphosis of New York's water tanks into new housing or urban services
This project arises from the existence of a unique element, the Watertanks that are found within the morphology of New York.
Historically, water tanks served to provide buildings with basic hydrological supplies for living and to guarantee protection against fires... But today the population does not use them as much, so they are being abandoned.
For all this, ManhatTANK aims to recover the historical, representative and visual value of all these iconic elements of the Big Apple. With this idea, we give them new uses, and the possibility of generating a unique urban regeneration.
This minimal intervention will generate residential spaces in a unique environment, in an urban area where there is a shortage of available space. In addition, it not only offers the possibility of building homes, but also many other uses, such as viewing points, hotels, meeting points or ports for future courier drones.
This project keeps one eye on the past, solving the needs of the present, with the other eye on the future.
